Fact Check: Family Survey NOT Meant To Take Children Away From Parents Not A Trap

Is Romania's "Family Survey" a trap designed to remove children from their parents? No, that's not true: it is a survey from Romania's National Institute for Public Health aiming to voluntarily collect data from parents on obesity among children.

The claim appeared in various TikTok videos, such as this one (archived here), published on May 3, under the title "What they didn't achieve through the law they will achieve through your carelessness," and it urged parents not to complete the survey.

The Family Survey doesn't pose a threat to children and their parents and contrary to this claim, it is not connected to the recently adopted law aimed at preventing the separation of the child from the family, also known as PL-x 145/2023, a law that opponents falsely promoted as an effort to separate children from their parents.

This survey, proposed by the National Institute for Public Health (INSP), is compliant with the WHO European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative (COSI), according to Factual.ro, and aims to promote and monitor the health and well-being of children in primary school, with a focus on monitoring tendencies in obesity among children.

During the fourth stage of the survey from May to June this year, parents can voluntarily choose to complete it, and choose which questions to complete.
